Very Important, Not That Important, or Not Sure...

Yeah I know, Glenn Beck’s a liar, a cheat, a fraud, or whatever name you can think of to call him. And like always, his critics are so busy launching personal attacks they never really get around to the issues he brings up. It’s almost like there’s a pattern here. Weird.

Yesterday he brought up a recent survey that asked how important some of our basic rights were. There were three possible answers to choose from. Very Important, Not That Important, and Not Sure.

Very Important The Rest

The right to speak freely: 70% 30%
The right to assemble: 65% 35%
The right to worship or not to: 60% 40%
The right to privacy: 60% 40%
The right to bear arms: 45% 55%
The right to a fair trial: 70% 30%
Protection from unreasonable search and seizure: 60% 40%

How can any of these questions not be 100% Very Important? What’s happened to us?

And how in the world can anyone Not Be Sure? How can you not understand how important these rights are. These rights are the essence of what makes America, America. You know, the whole Land Of The Free thing.

And if you do understand what our rights are but for some reason, believe they’re Not That Important, well, you’re an idiot, and I don’t know how else to call it. Sorry.

Yeah, that Glenn Beck’s crazy alright…

  1. You crack me up.

Here's one possible approach to "How can any of these not be '100% Very important'?"

30% are too timid to speak freely
35% are too timid/lazy to assemble
at least 40% don't give a rip about worship or not worshipping
    40% can't define privacy
55% are too shy/untrained/etc. to brandish modern arms
30% don't understand what a "fair trial" is (until they don't get one)

For some reason, I feel less alarmed when I look at it this way. A certain percentage of people are basically lazy, sweet, dumbasses who need a savior.

I also think that some of these numbers could change as we head toward November. The most effective get-out-the-vote for conservatives is to put liberals in power.

  2. Well said, Fred. That's exactly what's going to happen in November. Well, at least I hope so.

And if you feel less alarmed looking at those numbers that way. Then, so do I. LOL...

  3. The poll results are striking as they reveal an ignorance of the basic rights of a free people guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights by large numbers of Americans. Sorry, Fred but these numbers are very alarming to me. I wonder what, if anything, is being taught about them these days in our education system. I was taught about them, how we got them, as well the blood and treasure spent to preseve them. Ignorance can kill freedom quickly.

  4. Oh crap. now I've lost that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Granted, it's been a while since I've sat in a classroom. But in my day, we did learn these things. It was just common sense.

Not so much anymore. I'm afraid kids today kids are being inudated with a long list of anit-American crap.

How else can you explain these numbers?
