Oroville Dam Collapse...

I had a whole different blog planned for this morning but before I got started I noticed our good friend and fellow patriot, Hammertime brought up the Oroville dam in California late last night.

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/02/12/emergency-spillway-flow-slows-oroville-dam/

I remember back in 93 when we were facing pretty much the same thing with the Tuttle Creek dam in Manhattan.

I couldn't help but worry about the thousands of people directly in the path of destruction if that dam had failed.

At the time my wife and I lived in the Oakland area and the Kansas River had reached the breaking point.

I still remember standing on the dike that protects the entire area from the Kansas River.

You could actually feel the vibration as the deadly waters churned.

If that dike had failed it would have instantly destroyed everything in it's path.

My neighbors on both sides moved most of their things to storage units and stayed with relatives till the water had gone back down.

And it's what prompted us to buy a house on higher ground.

California Governor Jerry Brown has sent the National Guard to evacuate 130,000 people from the area and has asked the Trump administration for help.

He's asked that Trump declare the area a Federal Disaster.

As much as I despise Jerry Brown and the crap coming out of California these days, I hope Trump answers his call for help.

  2. Dam?? they can't get anything right in California. Most of them hate this country and now they want the tax payers to bail them out!! Good Grief put all those illegals to work patching it.

  3. I have mixed feeling about all this. I have family in California. They live in Southern California out of the reach of this situation, but they have family in Northern California.

I feel bad for the people affected by this, but maybe it will wake them up and they will stop letting the radical left control that atate.

California had massive water retention projects through the forties and fifties, with plans for building a water infrastructure to contain and store water for a state that was doubling in population. But then along came the radical environmentalists and Governor Moonbeam Jerry Brown and they stopped it all. Now the population went from 20 million to 40 million with water enough for 20 million. And the reservoirs that are there are full to the brim, causing this kind of situation.

California is insane. $25 billion in debt. They have one fourth of the countries illegal immigrants. The highest per capita poverty rate in the country. Highest taxes. Highest energy costs.

And their solution? Raise taxes even more, driving the tax payers and businesses out of the state.

And then they talk about seceding from the union because they don't like the President we elected.

California and all it's madness is the perfect example to look at to see what the radical left can do if they have the complete unfettered control they seek. And the rest of America sees it, and that's why we vote them out of office at an ever increasing rate.

I don't know what to do with California. I may end up living there in a couple years. I've driven through the central valley of California and it looks like the depression up there. Once thriving farm communities now crime infested pits. Millions of acres of rich farmland lying fallow for lack of water while the water gets diverted to the ocean to support an extinct bait fish nobody has even seen in twenty years. Go to LA and the valley and people are living in million dollar shacks and you go to Balboa park five miles away and you think you have entered Mexico City.

What a mess. Hope the dam holds. But I doubt California will hold. It's already collapsed, it just hasn't fallen down yet. And these people think they should have the power to elect our President over the votes of the rest of us. I don't think so.

  4. Safe I agree, shame your family has to go though this, I was station at Fort Ord in the 70's, Matter of fact that is where I learned to do home canning, the farm lands were load with food, like you said those same areas now look like a desert. Everything the lib's touch turns to Shit!!

  5. Read into it. They had a problem in 2013. DWR knew about this, and only gave a patch fix. Let's remember that a record snowfall has landed, and dire days are coming. If they can't keep it off the emergency spillway, it will cause more problems for river systems and possibly two more reservoirs.
I despise California, but I will put my feelings aside and hope for the best.
Oroville is the tallest earthen dam in the US. 93 was a scary time around here, but pales in comparison to this situation. We are talking a whole bunch more water.

  6. Curious to see how bags of boulders actually works for a temporary solution. And curious as to how it affects the long term fix thats necessary.
Us dumb hay seeds here in Kansas pretty much buy into the idea that your auxiliary or emergency spillway should be armored with concrete to prevent erosion.
But those silly folks in California just seem to be sooooo much smarter.
I just hope they get federal help in the time of need, but are forced to use state dollars to fix their infrastructure.
That train to nowhere makes so much sense, doesn't it?

  7. Governor Moonbeam is likely telling everyone, behind the scenes: "Let's hold off on that secession thing until we get money for this dam problem!"

Any money going to backwards, anti-American California should come with ropes stronger than the Golden Gate Bridge suspension cables attached.

I feel empathy for any innocent people that may be in the path of this self-inflicted-by-California disaster (those who don't vote along with the fruits and nuts out there for societal-suicidal policy), but not all that much for any Moonbeam voters.

That sounds callous, but...way past time they learn what disastrous policies cause.

The following from the LA Times purportedly shows what is happening:

    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-oroville-dam-how-20170213-story.html

Having said all that, I hope it doesn't collapse. Nobody wants loss of life, and that much property damage...which will end up raising insurance rates for us all, and a whole lot of federal taxpayer money spent for the thankless amongst them. They may need to spend billions to repair the thing.

Hopefully, it doesn't collapse, and hopefully this is a wakeup call to the idiots out there who keep voting other idiots into office.

Hopefully, but Californians being Californians...pretty sure they won't answer that call.

  8. Over at the ToPeePot Capital-Urinal:

    http://cjonline.com/news/2017-02-13/michael-flynn-national-security-adviser-resigns-amid-russia-controversy

Well...nothing wrong with covering the story.

There IS something wrong with throwing the kitchen sink in with it!

And, it's an obvious hitpiece to try to make Trump look bad. Naturally. That's just what "Fake News" sites write and publish.

"Hey! Let's throw in a few OTHER grenades, which have absolutely NOTHING to do with THIS story!"

"The revelations were another destabilizing blow to an administration that has already suffered a major legal defeat, botched the implementation of a signature policy and stumbled through a string of embarrassing public relations missteps."

    And:

"Trump, who comments on a steady stream of issues on his Twitter feed, had been conspicuously silent about the matter since The Washington Post reported last week that Flynn had discussed sanctions with the Russian envoy."

    And:

"Flynn’s resignation comes as Trump and his top advisers seek to steady the White House after a rocky start. The president, who seeks input from a wide range of business associates, friends and colleagues, has been asking people their opinions on his senior team, including Spicer and Priebus."

"The White House is also dealing with fallout from the rocky rollout of Trump’s immigration executive order, which has been blocked by the courts. The order was intended to suspend the nation’s refugee program and bar citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States."

Now, then...what the HELL does...ESPECIALLY...that last paragraph have to do with ANY of THIS STORY?!

    Nothing. Nothing at all.

Just throw more against the wall, to see what sticks.

    And the funny thing is?

They are NOT giving President Trump "credit" for getting rid of someone who may have done wrong. They are assuming (and insinuating) that President Trump knew about this, all along. Yet, they apparently have no proof of that.

How about "You did the right thing, Mr. President. Thank you."?

No. None of that from mainlining media.

Conversely, when Dems have someone found doing something wrong, the administration and the media fight tooth-and-nail to keep them in THEIR positions! AND, they attack anyone who suggests those people step down!

So, just more blatantly-obvious Trump-bashing, going on in this "story".

The media is shameless, devoid of ANY "journalistic integrity", "objective reporting", or ethics of any kind.

    Nice job, "Fake News".
