Lock down 2020

I can remember way back to last year when the year 2020 was still on the horizon.

Bring it on, I said.

Now the old saying "Be careful what you wish for" comes to mind.

Good grief.

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Shawnee County is only allowing people to leave their homes for essential activities, like groceries, health care or working at an essential service or business.
The order will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, March 26, according to Dr. Gianfranco Pezzino, Shawnee County Health Officer. It will last until April 26.
Under this order, everyone is directed to stay home except for essential needs.
That includes:
  • Obtaining medicine or seeing a doctor or other health care provider
  • Getting necessary services or supplies for themselves, their family or household members, such as food, pet food or supplies necessary for staying at home
  • Obtaining supplies necessary for maintaining a household
  • Obtaining supplies necessary for working from home
  • Engaging in outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking or running
  • Performing work providing essential services at an essential business
  • Caring for a family member in another household
  • Caring for the elderly, minors, dependents, persons with disabilities or other vulnerable persons.

SCHD said essential businesses and organizations include:
  • Hospitals
  • Childcare facilities
  • Government operations
  • Pharmacies, health care supply stores and health care facilities
  • Grocery stores and convenience stores
  • Agricultural stores or stores that provide essential food and goods for animals
  • Gas stations
  • Auto repair facilities
  • Garbage collection
  • Hardware stores, plumbers, electricians, exterminators and other service providers necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation and essential operation of residences and other essential businesses
  • Educational institutions, for the purposes of facilitating distance learning
  • Laundromats, dry cleaners and laundry service providers
  • Businesses that ship or deliver groceries, food and goods directly to residences

Stay safe and be well, my friends.

  1. Well I better make my beer run today, better stock up I guess, this lock down doesn't bother us, we haven't been out of the house for 2 !/2 months and that was only a doctor visit, and My beer runs in and out in minutes, once a week, adapt improvise and over come, and this country will do that.

  2. We've been under this lock down out here for a while. Not a big deal. You can get out to get groceries, hardware, booze, food or whatever. You can go walking, fishing, or typical activities. They aren't going to be stopping people on the streets demanding to know where they are going. Simple answer, going to the grocery store. Can't argue with that. So they aren't going to stop people.

We've had a run of people on facebook saying their business is giving out letters to verify the person works at an essential business. This is nonsense. If the only way you can be out is if you have a letter saying you work at a grocery store, then nobody else can be out so you got no customers.

Don't believe half of what you hear. Our church office is open. People are able to stop by and have a little human connection time. My wife is working there a couple days a week to help out. But then we have zero cases in our valley, so we are probably a little safer.

I think this is going to be over sooner than anybody thinks. Us older folks with some health issues will probably have to stay home a little longer, but the young healthy people can get herd immunity. This country can't do this for a long period. Our President is right. It will destroy our country.

I'd be fishing every day but we're having unseasonable chilly windy weather. By the weekend it's looking like back to normal, seventies and sunny so I'll be quarantined by the lake fishing. Otherwise, lots of TV.

  3. Yeah we were all issued those papers yesterday. Seems like just the fact that I'll be driving a bread truck full of bread should be enough to make it obvious to anyone that I'm delivering bread.

But I'll have my papers with me just in case I run across some dumbass out there...

  4. Most people are familiar with the tale of "The Ant And The Grasshopper," an ancient fable about a grasshopper who spends the fruitful months of spring and summer in idle recreation, dancing and playing carelessly while the industrious ant works tirelessly to prepare for what he knows will be a harsh winter. In many versions the Grasshopper harasses the Ant, criticizing him for wasting so much time on work when he could be out enjoying himself in the sun.

Eventually, winter does arrive, and it is as brutal as the Ant had predicted. Not surprisingly, the carefree Grasshopper finds himself cold and starving with no supplies, begging the Ant to share the bounty he had worked so hard for over the summer. The Ant refuses, telling the Grasshopper he can "dance the winter away, now..."

    ReplyDelete
  5. What many people do not know is that there is also a decidedly more socialist version of "The Ant And The Grasshopper" written by a French poet named Jean de La Fontaine in which the Ant is portrayed as the bad guy, and his industry as "mean spirited." And here in this little fable we have represented one of the greatest conflicts of humanity:

Should the people who refuse to work and prepare be bailed out and saved from their laziness and foolishness? Or should they be allowed to suffer for their mistakes? And if they are bailed out, should they be bailed out by the very people they used to mock for working so hard and the people they used to mock for seeing the danger ahead?

Now, in the versions I read as a child the ant did not just work diligently while ignoring the grasshopper; he consistently tried to warn the grasshopper that winter was coming, but the grasshopper was incredulous. And, I have to say if we apply this fable as an allegory to our current situation in the middle of a pandemic and economic collapse the ants (preppers) have been loudly pleading with the grasshoppers to stock supplies because a crisis event on a national and global scale was inevitable.

Our industry has hardly been mean spirited; we gave other people every chance to see the danger and prepare. We tried to save them. We went above and beyond. Yet, some grasshoppers out there now claim that this is not enough.

Over the past couple of weeks we have seen an avalanche of articles which attack people stocking supplies as "hoarders," not to mention a number of bizarre arguments by economists on why stockpiling goods is "bad for the economy." Even Donald Trump has been telling Americans to "stop hoarding supplies" and to have faith that food will still be in the stores weeks from now.

I would point out that the vast majority of people that are suddenly rushing to stores to load up on goods during the crisis are not really preppers. Preppers were already equipped for this event months or years in advance. Preppers were buying their extra supplies two or three months ago when they first heard about the virus threat. We all knew what this meant not just for public health, but the economy overall.

The current narrative is essentially lumping together all the people who have stockpiled goods meticulously over years in with people who raced to Costco a few days ago to buy all the toilet paper, and I think this is a deliberate misrepresentation.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hoarder is a negative word used to describe people who were smart enough to prepare ahead of time by people who were not smart enough to prepare ahead of time.

I would also point out that gun stores, reporting a massive influx of new firearms owners purchasing whatever they can find as the situation becomes more grim, are also reporting that the majority of these people are Democrats and leftists that were previously "anti-gun." Many of these people have never even fired a gun in their lives. This is not to say that all preppers are conservative and all the panic buyers are leftists, but I think the evidence suggests that there are far more on the left that are unprepared, and this is where we start to run into problems.

I don't condemn people who raced out to buy supplies the past week, I'm glad they did because that buys the country a little more time before the real panic starts. However, we need to be practical and accept that many of these folks are inexperienced in preparedness and think that buying an extra two weeks of food is going to save them. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this phrase from people in the past couple of days:

"When the lockdowns are over in the next few weeks we'll go out and restock..."

This is a serious disconnect from reality. It shows that these people are hyper focused on the virus alone, they actually believe the rumors that the virus will be gone as spring floats in and they are completely oblivious to the economic collapse that is happening while the pandemic is developing. They really do think this will all be over before their meager supply of goods from Costco runs out.

These are the people I feel bad for, because at least they were trying. These are not the grasshoppers.

The grasshoppers are people that not only attacked preppers as "doom mongers" for years, not only refused to stock their own supplies during the coronavirus event, but they are also the same people that now are taking to social media to rage at preppers (ants) who now say "We told you so...," and the grasshoppers want to make the ants pay by demanding their supplies be taken and redistributed.

How dare we call out the grasshoppers for their imprudence and their hypocrisy, right? Does it help to say, "I told you so?" Absolutely. Shaming people for making stupid decisions and for putting themselves and others at risk because of their stupid decisions is a hallmark of human survival that has been discouraged by the mainstream in the past decade. It needs to make a comeback.

  7. Kevin, I'm not sure why you need a paper to be delivering bread. If you can't be out on the street without a paper, who's going to be out buying your bread so why do you need to deliver it? I think this is just overreaction. We're not under martial law so it's not illegal to be on the street. There's no curfew. If some fool decided to try something like that, disaster would follow. Who cares if you have a paper to deliver bread if I'm not allowed out to buy it. Just seems like a really dumb idea that just increased confusion and panic.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Agreed. But there's always the chance of running across some dumbass county inspector trying to make a name for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  9. A perfect example comes from La county
    In your very own state.

La county sheriff orders all gun stores to close after releasing 1,700 prisoners from the county jail.

He's probably getting ready to run for Attorney General by proving how woke he is... Story on Breitbart...

  10. Well beer store guy is playing it day by day, so I just stocked up.. JUST ENCASE !!

  11. One more thing,

Here's the thing; our labor is one of the few things we truly own from birth, and according the constitution we are supposed to own it outright. If you plan to steal or "redistribute" the labor of others, then you are making them into slaves. You are using their work to support people who did not earn it and often times don't deserve it.

If you want to maintain the moral high ground, then you can appeal to prepared people and their sense of charity, which I myself have done on occasion. I do not think that preppers should turn away every single person in need of help, but it has to be their choice, not an imperative forced at gunpoint and by government. If they refuse, then that is their decision and it does not make them a villain. They are merely reaping the benefits of their own struggles, their own blood, sweat and tears.

The grasshoppers do not care about any of this, though. They feel they are entitled to a livelihood and to comfort, and they are happy to take it from others if they can, or even better, they are happy for the government to steal for them.

Mark my words, these people are about to start swarming in droves like locusts. They are vicious narcissists, their pride has been damaged and they are out to prove that even though preppers were right, we are still wrong because now we are going to be forced to feed the same grasshoppers that used to tell us our prepping was pointless. That will teach us!

Of course, I don't think they comprehend the measure of response from the ants. Many of us plan to fight back, and frankly we do not care who our opponent is or how well equipped they are. If you come to pirate our livelihood and labor and claim it as your property, then we plan to take as many grasshoppers down as possible.

My suggestion to the grasshoppers? Learn how to plant and farm quick, because you are not going to get anything from us for free and trying will only start a war. Maybe, if you ask nicely, we'll even teach you how to provide for yourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kevin, I saw that as well. Just a little while ago the LA Co Sheriff reversed himself and said they can stay open. On advise from legal counsel. That was always illegal. Sometimes the good guys win.

There's a lot of that going on right now. Petty bureaucrats overreaching their authority. The LA Mayor forbid people from going to or coming from their vacation homes. Lots of people in LA have second homes. And he says they can't leave that disease ridden hell hole and head to the hills to their vacation homes. That's so beyond his authority. But we'll see more of this from the commie rat bastards.

  13. And that my friend is why I need papers that show I'm delivering bread if they pull me over in my bread truck...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I have papers as well.
Mine actually from a governmental agency.

Papers are to allow "free passage" to travel to your essential task.

It's different for me, considering the facilities I'm in.

I'm like Safe, and the others. Papers don't mean much to me.
But, I was advised that it is no joking matter. Employwr and Client require them on our persons at all times.
So take it for what it's worth.

It does feel like it belongs in 1928 in some far far national socialist country.

The presumptive Democrat candidate now claims he became a college professor when he left the Senate. He apparently forgot he became VPOTUS after the Senate. No one remembers taking a class from him and no university has claimed him as a professor. Some lib wrote a story claiming all he has to do is stay alive to defeat Trump.

  20. Sleepy Joe should be renamed Dementia Joe. Sad, that people would even consider him as presidential material. The article detailing the original article indicates his handlers attempt to keep him on script. I still believe there is a movement to deny him the delegates necessary. Now to unload all the crap from the camper. It's hard to believe all the stuff we accumulated over the course of 20 plus years.

  59. Kevin, do you still have an office full of plant? I just finished moving all but three plants out of the garage. Now the patio is full of plants. Good grief. Nice thunderstorms headed our way. Good time to give the plants a good soak.

I'm thinking about making a grocery run tomorrow. I want to make cabbage soup and the last time I was at the store most all the vegetables were sold out. McFarland's restaurant in Topeka had the BEST cabbage soup. I heard the secret ingredient was a little pickle juice. But that could be a "roomer". Ha, ha. Oh, another dem friend blocked me from her fb. I tell you, those dems absolutely hate it when you say anything good about the economy, the virus or PTrump. They actually leap right out of their pointed little skulls. I've known this friend over 35 years. She got mad because I told her we like Dan Patrick down here, (actually I don't like him). She had a couple of her rabid friends ask me why I wanted my friend to die. They all live in the DC area, up there around where Blue lives so you can imagine the hate they spew. Oh well. Another one bites the dust.

  60. Well Rose, it's always better to know who and what people really are.

  63. Happy birthday Rikki.

The funny thing about the camper is that I wasn't even trying to sell it. A friend of my brother made me an offer and since we haven't used it for several years now I decided why not.

I really hadn't thought too much about it until I started unloading 20 plus years worth of memories.

I came close to calling off the whole thing...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Happy Birthday to Rikki!

And Kevin, be prepared to "help" move all those beautiful plants. God help us if we get a cold snap. In the house, out of the house, in the house out of the house, repeat until you just give up and let those plants die a slow death.

  70. Kevin, here is a little hint. If you want a plant to die, it won't. It will live until you die. I still have two plants that I had when I lived in Houston and that was 30 years ago. They are both big plants now and I continue to lug those plants around every year. I have another plant, a ficus tree that was given to me as a gift for watching my neighbors grandchild (infant baby) while they attended a wedding. That grandchild is now in college. The plant was small at the time and now it takes up half my sunroom. I still lug it in and lug it out. Story of my life.

  71. The MSM keeps giving you a daily barrage of numbers of people infected with the coronavirus. Virus cases — we are told — are rising exponentially. The MSM tells you there's more every day and something must be done. Or, as a recent Fox News graphic stated, "surge in coronavirus." They might as well be telling you water is wet. The "surge" numbers are just as informative.

Just over two weeks ago hardly anyone was being tested. That doesn't mean there weren't any sick people. It just means the sick people had not been linked to corona. Then testing started ramping up. It got more robust every day. Now tens of thousands of people are tested daily. Of course the number of identified cases is surging. I call this sort of propaganda reporting fear porn.

It's designed to drive ratings and scare you out of your britches. It's government propaganda to make you clamor for government intervention on your behalf to save you, which of course means you'll be required to surrender your liberties. I in no way planning to surrender my liberties, Good Grief...

  72. Overnight more than 3 million Americans were forced off the payrolls. Businesses are being shuttered that will never open again.

Never mind, though. President Trump and Congress have ridden to the rescue. They've passed a spending bill — filled with lots of pork and leftist dreams — that will give each American a couple of thousand bucks (and the banksters and globalist megacorporations billions). Congressweasels and Trump think that will somehow tide Americans over for three weeks — or three months or however long the medical men with their computer programs generating models based on incomplete and/or fabricated data tell us.

Following the lead of medical men and passing along the gloom and doom numbers being spat out of government computers, governors, county commissions and city governments are exercising Orwellian powers, forcing businesses to close and threatening the cut off of utilities and revocation of business licenses for noncompliance. Gun stores are being shuttered as "nonessential," and sheriffs are suspending the issuance of gun permits at a time when people most need to arm themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  73. The Department of Just(Us) also requested that judges be allowed to suspend courtroom rules during times of emergency.

Trump, governors, mayors and county commission presidents are using "executive orders" to create laws and mandates from thin air. If they have the authority to make law on a whim that effectively suspends our rights, of what use is a Constitution? The rule of law is dead in America.

We've seen our rights steadily eviscerated since 9/11. After 20 years Americans have come to accept that all their electronic communications will be scarfed up by the government... that the president can drone strike anyone — including American citizens — at will, and that contrary opinions that challenge the official government line can be scrubbed from public view.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Now we're handing over our ability to move about, gather and express ourselves.

Look for forced vaccinations as soon as government men deem an acceptable level of vaccine side effects has been reached. The act of forcing people through intimidation and deception into dangerous medications is terrorism of the most malicious sort. This act by public authority constitutes assault, violating civil and human rights under national and international law.

We've been warning our readers for years that this is where we were headed. The time is now very late to retain and regain our liberties... maybe too late.

The run on stores for paper products and non-perishables was a prelude to what's in store if the lockdowns continue for weeks. People will do anything they feel is necessary when they or their families are starving.

I pray you have heeded our advice over the years to stockpile essentials, set aside some cash and buy gold and silver. If not do it now, while the price of precious metals is being manipulated downward (how else could the price of silver have dropped, and the price of gold only risen $10 over the last month of "panic"?). Sad times for the greatest Country in the world...

What the mainstream liberal biased media won't pass along is how there are many American Tax Paying Citizens are supporting what President Trump is doing - the American Tax Paying Citizens are behind him all the way.

What about the dumb ass DUMBOcrats?! They're making ASSES out of themselves yet again - making noise so that their bed partner (i.e. the mainstream liberal biased media) will give them air time.

Hey Blue, Unknown, Ian, TVKid, whichever schizoid personality login you choose to be.... go back the rag urinal.... there's other dumbasses there who think as stupid and screwed up like you do.

  91. Smithfield Farms, the largest pork producing farm in the USA was sold recently to China with the unanimous support of its stockholders!! The hogs will still be raised here, but slaughtered and packaged for sale there before being sent back here. This includes labels of Morrell, Eckrich, Krakus, Cudahy, Premium Hams, Cook's, Gwaltney, The same with many chickens. They can now be shipped there, but when they come back all that needs to be labeled is that they WERE RAISED IN THE USA. Not that they were processed in China!!! Our great FDA at work again. The chickens will be all processed and most sold to fast food restaurants for sandwiches, along with schools and supermarkets. The China slaughter and processing are not nearly equal to the requirements here.
    *BAD FOOD:::
We recently learned that Starkist Tuna is now owned by Korea , and is in big conflict with the U. S. concerning quality, safety, and records, which Korea refuses to produce.
Read several articles on Google about this, and even one that was defending the eating of tilapia said to avoid the fish that came from China Also,I had just returned home from buying Albertson's 4-day special of 4 bags of frozen tilapia for the price of one.? Sure enough, on the top of the bags, it read "farm raised", and on the bottom in small print it said, " China "read all the way down...
Recently a Food inspector on TV... said he had lived overseas and he had seen the filthy conditions their foods are raised and processed in. It is enough to make you throw up. Some foreign workers have to wear masks as they work in these places, because the food is so rotten and filthy, it makes them want to throw up. Many of their fish on Fish Farms are fed raw sewage daily. He said he has seen so much filth throughout their food growing and processing that he would "never" eat any of it. They raise this filth, put some food coloring and some flavorings on it, then they ship it to the USA & Canada for YOU to consume and feed to YOUR families. They have no Food & Safety Inspectors. They ship it to you to buy and poison your families and friends .
Imported food we eat and the junk we buy: Green Giant frozen vegetables are from China, and so are most of Europe 's Best.
Arctic Gardens are Okay. So is Birdseye.
Never buy the grocery store garlic unless it is clearly marked from USA or Canada, the other stuff is grown in people poop (even worse than chicken droppings). China is the largest producer of garlic in the world; U. S. is next.
Buy only local honey *, much honey is shipped in huge containers from China and re-packed here.
Cold-FX is grown and packed in China and is full of fecal bacteria. Doesn't work anyway, big scam.
If the country of origin is not clearly marked beware. If produce, ask an employee.
Watch out for packages which state "prepared for", "packed by" or "imported by". We don't understand the lack of mandatory labeling, especially the produce.
The country of origin should be clearly shown on the item in the store.
Go to the local farmers' markets in season and keep a wary eye open the rest of the year.
Please read this very carefully, and read to the very bottom. It's important for all of us.

  92. How is it possible to ship food from China cheaper than having it produced in the U. S. or Canada?
FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM CHINA '. SO, FOR A FEW MORE CENTS, BUY THE LIBERTY BRAND.
GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE IS FROM CALIFORNIA.
Beware, Costco sells canned peaches and pears in a plastic jar that come from China.
ALL "HIGH LINER" AND MOST OTHER FROZEN FISH PRODUCTS COME FROM CHINA OR INDONESIA . THE PACKAGE MAY SAY "PACIFIC SALMON" ON THE FRONT, BUT LOOK FOR THE SMALL PRINT. MOST OF THESE PRODUCTS COME FROM FISH FARMS IN THE ORIENT WHERE THERE ARE NO REGULATIONS ON WHAT IS FED TO THESE FISH.
Recently The Montreal Gazette had an article by the Canadian Government on how Chinese feed the fish: They suspend chicken wire crates over the fish ponds, and the fish feed on chicken droppings.
If you search the internet about what the Chinese feed their fish, you'll be alarmed; e. g, growth hormones, expired anti-biotic from humans.? Never buy any type of fish or shellfish that comes from these countries: Vietnam, China, Philippines.
Check this out personally. Steinfeld's Pickles are made in India - just as bad! Another example is in canned mushrooms. No-Name brand came from Indonesia .
Also, check those little fruit cups. They used to be made in Canada in the Niagara region until about 2 years ago. They are now packaged in China. Most sold in Aldi stores.
While the Chinese export inferior and even toxic products, dangerous toys, and goods to be sold in North American markets, the media wrings its hands! Yet, 70% of North Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.
Well, duh! Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?
SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, CANADA AND THE U. S.
Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.
    THINK ABOUT THIS:
If 200 million North Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast! The downside? Some Canadian/American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory.
Just one month of trading losses will hit the Chinese for 8% of their North American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness are worth it.
START NOW and don't stop and tell your friends.
Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are intelligent, and NOBODY can take us for granted. Start reading labels more closely and buy something else even if it cost a few cents more.*

I will wait till next Tues as WM lets us people in at 6:00 to shop right when they open. I do have three of the earth boxes I guy I knew passed away and his wife gave them to me. I use them also. I do have some pepper plants from last year that I saved inside so they can go out. I think its still to early to try any thing in the dirt. But wish I could get me supplies to keep busy.

  103. Apparently Fox has joined the Lame Stream News. There is no way we have surpassed China in deaths. Why is Fox and the rest of US News ignoring the link to the Wuhan bio facilities studying the same type of bat the virus came from. Except for the bio facility these bats are not within 800 miles of Wuhan. Why is Australia the only reporting this. Screw the ChiComs and their sycophants at the WHO. The US should pull our support (We contribute double of the next in line) and tell them to get the support from China. China started this crisis, lied about it and are responsible for all the deaths. To all you morons like Blue, I mean the Chinese government, not the ordinary citizens. So screw you too if you think I am not politically correct.

  104. Fox News has been leaning to the left for quite some time now. And that's the reason I never watch them anymore.

In fact I don't watch any of them anymore. It's nothing but Trump bashing 24/7 and I'm sick of it.

Screw the media, the Trump haters, China, and most of all, screw you Blue...

  105. Its really hard to find & listen to any news any more. With Fox going to the left and bashing the right it is hard to even want to turn the news on. Some other places are ok I guess but finding up to date info is almost a waste of time. In a time when people want and need up to date real info who and where do you go? Some times I wonder just how much real truth we are getting from our own government. Getting false, fake and just plain lies is now the normal.
I had a fiend whose sister married a guy from Israel and moved there with him. I asked her one day what was the biggest thing her sister found different living there? She said that the Israel government told their people the facts and the truth on TV and in the news.
