In Case You Thought Memorial Day Was All About A Three Day Weekend...
Memorial Day weekend.
For an ever growing number of Americans it's just another three day weekend and millions of us will pack up our families and our stuff and head out to the lake, the park, or even our own back yards to celebrate it by burning a few burgers. We'll slam down a few beers. Play a little touch football with the kids and generally have a good time.
But I can't help but wonder how many of us even bother to think about those who lost their lives defending this country so the rest of us could enjoy the silly, every day things most of us now take for granted.
Memorial Day was set aside as the one day of the year that we as a grateful nation could honor the service men and women who died defending this country.
I'm not so sure we're that grateful nation we once were though.
To Veterans everywhere, past, present, and future I thank you for your service.
I know it's not much but when you get right down it, it's all I got...

Imagine if you will, a world being run by insane people. Hell, you don't have to imagine it. Just look around. Just two short years ago ...
Damn, you guys are getting harder to please all the time...
ReplyDeleteKevin, It isn't your job to please us, but if it was, you have done a damn good job, if you were to ask me my friend. Stick around and do what you do best and that is to keep this little town we have here talking among our selfs. If we are lucky you and us might get one or two of the Libs to pull their heads out of their ass and see the light. Well I hope everyone did just a little something this weekend to make the world just a little better.zzzzzz's
ReplyDeleteGood DAY today!

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The bodies of 28 veterans at the L.A. County Morgue were finally moved Friday for burial to the Riverside National Cemetery.
ReplyDeleteCBS2/KCAL9 pressed the L.A. County Coroner’s Office Thursday to find out why the bodies had not yet received a proper burial after a source indicated there may have been as many as 60 veterans at the morgue for the past year and a half.
The morgue says the bodies were unclaimed and they don’t know how long the veterans were there.
The law states veterans are supposed to receive a proper burial.
The Veterans Administration says they were never notified the bodies were processed and ready to be buried.
More than two dozen bodies were transported to the Riverside National Cemetery Friday afternoon and more could be moved as they are identified.
On Friday evening, KCAL9′s Stacey Butler reported the LA County Morgue and the Veteran’s Administration were blaming each other for the mistake.
Butler reported from the National Ceremony where the bodies are scheduled for burial.
She spoke to citizens who were outraged at how the deceased vets were treated.
“I think its incomprehensible,” said Richard Burns, a Marine veteran
Part two of the above story.
ReplyDeleteEvery Wednesday morning, Butler reports former Marine Corporal Burns goes to the Riverside National Cemetery and volunteers to lead memorial services for the unclaimed and often indigent vets.
Often Burns and a handful of volunteers are the only people in attendance.
By email, a spokesperson for the LA County Morgue pointed the finger at the VA.
They wrote, “…there are about 60 decedents of probable veteran status that have awaited disposition for about a year as a result of a personnel change in the Veterans Affairs office and stringent identification/eligibility processes required by the VA.”
Cindy Van Bibber, a VA spokesperson said, “There’s personnel changes every day but that certainly doesn’t take away from the service that we provide any veteran.”
She says “at no point” did the City Morgue contact the VA and tell them about the bodies piling up there.
“We definitely weren’t contacted or we would have had a service for the veteran,” she added.
Van Bibber said the process to get a proper burial should take about three days, not a year and a half.

ReplyDeleteP.S. I can't imagine anyone hating me...HEAR ME!...Lol
Liberals hate the military and it shows in their treatment of veterans.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama held a press conference last week to express his outrage over reports that the Veterans Administration was routinely delaying treatment to veterans, with some veterans even dying while on alleged secret waiting lists. The president said that, “if these allegations prove to be true, it is dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it, period.” He vowed that, together with Congress, he would “make sure we’re doing right by our veterans across the board.”
The president is right to be upset over the mistreatment of US military veterans, especially those who return home with so many physical and mental injuries. Veterans should not be abused when they seek the treatment promised them when they enlisted. But his outrage over military abuse is selective. He ignores the most egregious abuse of the US armed forces: sending them off to fight, become maimed, and die in endless conflicts overseas that have no connection to US national security.
It is ironic that the same week the president condemned the alleged mistreatment of veterans by the VA, he announced that he was sending 80 armed troops to Chad to help look for a group of girls kidnapped by the Nigerian Islamist organization Boko Haram. Is there any mistreatment worse than sending the US military into a violent and unstable part of the world to conduct a search operation that is in no way connected to the defense of the United States?
As Judge Andrew Napolitano said last week, “Feeling sorry for somebody is not a sufficient basis for sending American men and women into harm’s way.”

You parents out here check your kids history book and see if you find anything worth while about D-Day , or much on Pearl Harbor. I bet you will not find much of what at one time was taught to you if you over 55. It's all is being systematically removed. Oh and take notice they now trying to make wimps out of our kids, I ask the big question who will protect the country in the future young men that has never had a bloody nose or hit in the face with a soccer ball.
ReplyDeleteMemorial Day is one of these days, it's been for a long time, people don't know what it really is all about, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's just part of natural human evolution. It takes effort, a concerted effort to teach people things that they can't relate to 'cause they weren't alive when they happened.
what Stan said...haunt used bookstores and look for the old ones...also old encyclopedias...chock full of information that has not been revised, changed or edited out...that history as well as any history must be preserved for future generations so that it can be told. the way this censoring madness is going with words, I fear book bans are not far behind...
ReplyDeleteand obama with his phoniness about being mad about the vets..that's all it is, is phony baloney as he's trying to keep his faithful in line for the democrats....am so sick of his crap that I've taken to hitting the power button on my radio to shut him up until I think he's done with the speechifying.
ReplyDeleteCats... are you late I have been hitting the mute button for 4 yeas now./
ReplyDeleteThen there was the businessman from Kuala Lumpur who told his wife that he had a business appointment that week-end in Beijing.
ReplyDeleteHe told her he would be on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
So now, he's been stuck at his girlfriend's house for 2 1/2 months, and doesn't have the faintest idea how to go home.
Stan...sometimes we cats like to torture ourselves, I guess...that curiosity thing, ya know...
ReplyDeletedrudge link to washington times...story is about a directive to allow the regime to use the military against the citizens...urge everyone to read it, pray for our country and be prepared. they are looking for provocation and we must not allow that. recall all the federal agencies forming swat teams...now this story. it mentions that and quite a lot of other stuff. please go check it out and let others know about it. suspect that something else may be about to go down...as things with the regime have been happening way too fast of late...one after another after another.

But on the other hand,
Our retired seniors, living on a 'fixed income,'Receive NO aid!
Nor do they get any breaks, while our government and religious organizations will pour Hundreds of Billions Of $$$$$$'sand Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!
Someone needs to explain to them that
Charity begins AT HOME!!!
And another atrocity....
We have Hundreds of adoptable
American Children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of
Foreign orphans.
AMERICA: A country where we have
Countless Homeless without shelter,
Children going to bed hungry,
Elderly going without needed medication and the Mentally ill without treatment -- etc.
YET..........
They will have a 'Benefit' Show
For the people of Haiti , on 12 TV Stations;Ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies.
Now Just Imagine if
Our own *GOVERNMENT*
Gave 'US' the same support they give to foreign countries.
Sad, isn't it?
Joey59
Very sad, Joey.
ReplyDeleteIt's also sad that we have thousands of homeless vets in this country yet a homeless illegal alien is almost unheard of...
ReplyDeleteWell I won't say this as I just heard my Father say it, because I would have about 15 blanks in it. But to make it short he and most out here would love to make obama and most of all of Congress homeless or Country less.
ReplyDeleteMiddleoftheroad. 29 May, 2014
I can't and won't believe our military will follow a order from obama to kill it's own citizens, I as a former Military would not, I would say it is easier and smarter to take out Congress and Restore the Constitution back to this country, with Military temporally.
ReplyDeleteA 2010 Pentagon directive on military support to civilian authorities details what critics say is a troubling policy that envisions the Obama administration’s potential use of military force against Americans.
The directive contains noncontroversial provisions on support to civilian fire and emergency services, special events and the domestic use of the Army Corps of Engineers.

The troubling aspect of the directive outlines presidential authority for the use of military arms and forces, including unarmed drones, in operations against domestic unrest.
“This appears to be the latest step in the administration’s decision to use force within the United States against its citizens,” said a defense official opposed to the directive.
Directive No. 3025.18, “Defense Support of Civil Authorities,” was issued Dec. 29, 2010, and states that U.S. commanders “are provided emergency authority under this directive.”

A 2010 Pentagon directive signed by then-Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn ... more >
“Federal military forces shall not be used to quell civil disturbances unless specifically authorized by the president in accordance with applicable law or permitted under emergency authority,” the directive states.
“In these circumstances, those federal military commanders have the authority, in extraordinary emergency circumstances where prior authorization by the president is impossible and duly constituted local authorities are unable to control the situation, to engage temporarily in activities that are necessary to quell large-scale, unexpected civil disturbances” under two conditions.
The conditions include military support needed “to prevent significant loss of life or wanton destruction of property and are necessary to restore governmental function and public order.” A second use is when federal, state and local authorities “are unable or decline to provide adequate protection for federal property or federal governmental functions.”

Do you know what happened 164 years ago this summer.....
ReplyDeleteSeptember 9, 1850?
California became a state!
The people had no electricity.
The state had no money.
Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
There were gunfights in the streets.
So basically NOTHING has changed except, then the women had real boobs and the men didn't hold hands.
And that, my friends, is your history lesson for today.
Lol...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the history lesson, Sarge...
Kevin think nothing of it. Say I have been watching this new lassie, Middleoftheroad she seems to fit in well, lots of spunk. Hope she can handle what may come up down the road. Well it is time for me to call it a night. Going to be tough for a few nights Air conditioner when down, so I am having that and a new furnace replaced this week. Tough on the old pocket book, good news is it didn't dig into my beer money. :):)
