The blog I never wanted to write...

Well guys, the day we've all been dreading is upon us.

Before we get started though I think it's important to keep in mind those who seek to destroy us.

The number of hits this little Underground Bunker of ours get varies quite a bit. Usually though it's somewhere between 300 to 400 hits per post.

The last two have been right at 800 and 1,140 respectively.

Trust me, it's not all us checking in.

I suspect there are plenty of screen shots being taken.

Emails are being sent.

And wild ass theories about white supremacy and extremism are being imagined and reported.

The goal?

It's simple.

They wish to silence us.

Truth is, because of the realities we now face, they may very well succeed.

With all that in mind from here on out I have to be real careful about what I choose to talk about.

Obviously there are now topics one must never mention.

For instance, one must never ever mention or even hint at a stolen election.

Something like that could get you disappeared in the blink of an eye.

We must never show anything but unconditional support for China's pick for America's new president.

That'll get you blacklisted for sure.

Reminding the left of just how badly they treated President Trump and his 75 million supporters is now strictly forbidden and further proof of our need for reeducation.

So that's now off limits.

Pointing out the need for military control of the country is exactly what you'd expect from dictators in third world, shithole countries will be forever banned.

So I won't go there.

Obviously, this severely limits the things I'm allowed to talk about.

Actually, that really only leaves me with one simple message.

One that just about any simple minded troll can understand.

Screen shot this one, bitch...

Why should anyone be surprised by Bitch McConnell, R-Ky. Just another lifetime bottom feeder in D.C. feeding off selling out the country. They still just can't stand the fact that a non swamper got elected president and made so many accomplishments. They continue to divide the country and depend on the military to save their butts! Now they have sent several of the Guard home as they spoke out in favor of Trump. I never watch any of the presidential inaugurations anyway, but I bet tomorrow's looks like something from North Korea with all the military in uniform. Then our stupid governor gave staff two days off!! Last Sunday when they were all worried all that showed up was the news media? No one showed up today and doubt they will tomorrow? Well except the media. Are these politicians really so stupid they don't see why the country is divided? I think they know and don't care, they want power and money at any cost.

Report: Trump wants to create new political party

According to numerous polls in recent years, Mr. Trump has a significant base of support among people who had been either politically inactive or independents, and thus have little institutional loyalty to the GOP.

In recent months especially, Mr. Trump has feuded with Republican lawmakers in Washington, especially Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, accusing them of betrayal and calling them part of the Washington “swamp.”

According to the Journal, it’s not clear whether Mr. Trump was merely musing aloud or would be willing to put in the kind of time and investment that building a political party takes.

Historically, third parties have done poorly in elections — among many other things, the U.S. single-district and first-past-the-post legislative elections discourage their success.

However, they even now often attract enough support to tilt a race, particularly when almost all their supporters had been members of one of the two major parties.

Trump Pardons 73 People, Including Steve Bannon, Lil Wayne, on Last Day
By Newsmax Wires | Wednesday, 20 January 2021 04:45 AM

President Donald Trump pardoned 73 people, including his former aide Steve Bannon and rapper Lil Wayne early Wednesday, just hours before he was due to leave office.

The list of those pardoned — as well as 70 others whose sentences were commuted — was released by the White House in a statement during the early hours.

Neither Trump nor his relatives were on the list.

Bannon had been charged with, and pleaded not guilty to, defrauding people over funds raised to build the Mexico border wall, a flagship Trump policy.

He was Trump's campaign manager during the 2016 election, before becoming a senior adviser to the president. He left the White House acrimoniously in 2017, Trump later giving him the derogatory moniker "Sloppy Steve."

But Wednesday's statement read: "Mr. Bannon has been an important leader in the conservative movement and is known for his political acumen."

The president made his last-minute decision after speaking to Bannon by phone, according to a New York Times report.

Former Trump fundraiser Elliott Broidy was similarly pardoned, after pleading guilty last year to conspiring to violate foreign lobbying laws.

And the rapper Lil Wayne, who faced 10 years in jail after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon last month, also made the list.

The star, listed as Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., had shown "generosity through commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of foodbanks," the release added.

Trump also pardoned Anthony Levandowski, saving the pioneering autonomous vehicle engineer from more than a year in prison for stealing trade secrets from his former employer Waymo, formerly the Google car project.

Some lesser-known individuals also were pardoned. Among them was Steve Bowker.

"Nearly 30 years ago, Mr. Bowker pled guilty to a violation the Lacey Act, which prohibits trafficking in wildlife, when he arranged for 22 snakes owned by Rudy "Cobra King" Komarek to be transported to the Miami Serpentarium," the statement read.

"Although he did not ask for any animals in return, he was offered 22 American alligators. After pleading guilty, Mr. Bowker was sentenced to probation."

Other pardons included people whose cases have been championed by criminal justice activists.

Wednesday's announcement came after another raft of pardons late last year, including of Trump allies Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos and Alex Van Der Zwaan.

All five had pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial as a result of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into whether the Trump campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 election.

President-elect Joe Biden was due to be sworn in as his successor later Wednesday.

Trump retains the power to issue further pardons until noon, but officials did not expect any further action, The New York Times reported.

  6. I watch what's going on with a mixture of fear and rage. This is all carefully orchestrated. This has been in the works for sixty years. Just since they got a Marxist elected to the presidency in 2008 did they realize they could ramp it up and get it done finally. Donald Trump was a last gasp from the freedom loving patriots of this country and they turned that around. Took a global pandemic, created by them, and a stolen election, but they did it.

Now, why this newfound hatred of us? Why do they need to shut us up, deplatform us, cancel us? Why label us all as terrorists, seditionists who need to be silenced? Here's a hint. That's not their goal. Or in the terminology they would use, the final solution.

They want us stopped, but they have a much bigger plan for us. When you disenfranchise 74 million people. When you make it clear they have no place in your society. When you threaten them, harass them. Take away their jobs. What's left for them? What choices do they have. They have one. They will lash out. They will respond.

And that's what the democrat/chicom party is pushing us to do. Backing us so far into a corner we have nowhere to go and we start fighting back. Not on talk radio, but on the streets. And that's the goal. Because that seals the deal. That proves we are dangerous domestic terrorists. Then all the restraints, the few there are go away. They get to rain fire down on us, with the full support of the American people who they have brainwashed over the past sixty years.

Will it work? Maybe. We'll see. They are moving all the pieces into place.

As my friend Sarge always says. BE PREPARED! Keep supplies on hand. Food, water, money. Know who your friends are. And mostly, stock up on ammunition and guns while you can. That's one of the first things they are going after.

Lets stick together friends. We're all we got now.

Archive that, you commie rat bastards.

  7. Yhep They got us over a big ass barrel and they know it. They can and will come after each and every one of us . They have the military on their side now as they showed us. They can pick and choose who will serve in their military. They would like for us to start riots so they can bring them down on us. That would prove their points and they would then get more people on their side. We are in a corner and we have no way out except to go full blown you know what. Where's the A Team when you need them. Some one or some people are going to pay the price on the left and some will pay on the right. But push is coming to shove and that shit at the capital is just the beginning. Keep it up Libtards and see who goes down first. My money is on the patriots. Stay tuned. you were told.

  8. Biden's latest statements indicate he will be introducing numerous executive orders to "correct the mistakes of the Trump administration," thereby implanting the idea that whatever happens next is Trump's fault. The "Reset" globalists and their central banking partners will have to bring down the U.S. economy very quickly under a Biden White House. Why? Because if they wait, or if they try to drag out the collapse and the worst happens a few years down the road, Biden and the globalists will get the blame. They must crash the old-world order now so that Trump and conservatives get the blame.

The strategy seems to be set up like this: Demonize conservatives as much as possible as quickly as possible so that our purge can be rationalized. When we are incapable of defending ourselves in the public sphere because we have been removed from the internet, the establishment and leftists can blame us for everything going wrong. The public would have no access to any other points of view or contradictory facts and evidence because the alternative media will be gone. We become the monsters... the bogeymen... and the source of all American suffering.

We didn't fall into the trap of supporting martial law measures during the BLM riots, so this must be Plan B.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The important thing is to first make sure that conservatives know that there are places they can go where their rights are valued and defended. If conservatives feel completely isolated and alone, many will give up, go dark and pray they are not discovered. This is unacceptable.

The advantage of secession is clear; by separating, conservatives force the enemy to come to them, on the ground they have prepared. The leftists will be the aggressors. They will try to present the situation otherwise, but it won't matter. We will have the moral high ground as well as the superior strategic position.

There are multiple narratives that will be used to demonize the secession movement beyond the terrorism angle. In particular, I think the government and the media will try to tie secession to "foreign entities." In other words, they will claim the secession movement is being funded or supported by Russia, or some other foreign power. This is what almost every government in history has done when faced with a viable secession that could threaten their control. They accuse the people who want to separate of being agents for evil outsiders.

    It doesn't matter.

Conservatives cannot live with leftists, their cultism and zealotry have made it impossible. And we will not live under a globalist tyranny built around their reset agenda. Separation allows us to consolidate for defense and protects us economically. It is the only way to ensure that we remain free. The globalists and the leftists will try to stop us; they can't help themselves. They are insane, after all. This will lead to a war many of us have been expecting for quite some time. At the very least, with separation and secession, we will be in the best possible position to stop them. If we remain isolated from each other, the fight will be over before it even begins. Together we will win!!!! Hear Me!

Leftists in Portland protest Biden inauguration; vandalize Oregon Dem headquarters

By Jeff Mordock - The Washington Times - Updated: 9:11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021
Leftists protesters caused chaos and mayhem in Portland late Wednesday, chanting slogans against the police and President Biden and vandalizing the Oregon Democratic Party headquarters.

All told, eight protesters were arrested on a variety of charges, the Portland Police Department said in a statement. Charges include rioting, possession of a destructive device, and reckless burning.

Some of the arrests were connected to the vandalism at the Democratic headquarters where windows were smashed and graffiti was spray-painted across the building.

The rioters also damaged an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building, throwing rocks, eggs and vandalizing the building, according to the Portland Police.

“To those gathered near the ICE facility: We have observed property damage to the building. Anyone who is involved in criminal behavior including: vandalism and graffitting is subject to arrest,” the police wrote on Twitter.

The protesters rallied against the police, decrying the deaths of unarmed Black men at the hands of law enforcement, according to a local Fox television affiliate.

Some of the protesters also demonstrated against Mr. Biden on the day of his inauguration. A group of protesters carried a sign reading, “We don’t want Biden We want revenge for police murders.”

The Portland Police Bureau said the events unfolded just hours after Mr. Biden was sworn in. They said about 150 people gathered downtown and marched to the Democratic Party headquarters.

Sen. Tom Cotton, Arkansas Republican, said the anti-Biden protests are proof leftists undercuts Democrats who spent the summer blaming President Trump for civil unrest in major cities across the country.

“Ultimately what they want is to overthrow America,” Mr. Cotton said in an interview with Fox News. “They hate America. They are not rampaging in the streets because Joe Biden is president. They weren’t doing it last summer because Donald Trump was president. They were doing it because they hate America.”

The writer sums it up perfectly.

"Never before have they feared Mr. Trump more than they do right now. They fear him and his return so much that, instead of addressing any of the real problems facing the country today, they would rather pursue another fake impeachment trial to bar his supporters from ever electing him again to any federal office.

“We will be back,” Mr. Trump said. Yet it’s like he never left."

National Guard in D.C. was nothing but political prop
By Cheryl K. Chumley - The Washington Times - Friday, January 22, 2021

    ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Members of the National Guard stationed in Washington, D.C., to protect the incoming president from conservative voters during the canceled inaugural activities that nobody would’ve attended anyway were banished by police from the U.S. Capitol, booted to a nearby parking garage.

Their time in the photography sun had ended, you see.

The official reason given for the banishment was that Congress was in session. In other words, the guard members were in the way.

But what happened to security first, security at all costs?

Right. We all know the deal here. We all know the real deal.

President Joe Biden’s protectors had all the media imagery they needed. So the National Guard was no longer needed.

The thousands upon thousands upon thousands of armed soldiers sent to patrol the capital city streets and Capitol building hallways to keep out the deplorables from deplorably supporting Donald Trump did their duty — they stood strong in the face of all the MSNBC and CNN and ABC and CBS photographers who snapped away happily to capture on film what their minions back at studio base then claimed was the consequence of being conservative. See what happens when you vote for Donald Trump? See how dangerously racist all those MAGA people are? And now it was time for them to go.

The guardsmen, the guardswomen, were simply props for the Democrats.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Part 2 of 2

And post-inauguration, suddenly, Democrats and those on Capitol Hill doing the Democrats’ bidding rediscovered their dislike for guns, soldiers and law enforcement.

The soldiers supposedly tasked with enforcing law were ordered to quit using the Capitol complex as a break and rest area, and take their guns and go to the garage instead.

“We honestly just feel betrayed,” one guardsman said to CNN.

Yes. Props who don’t know they’re props generally do feel that way upon discovering they’re being used as props.

From CNN: Just a day before the guard members saw their rest area moved from the inside to the outside, from the comfortable Capitol eating areas and cushy surroundings to a dank cement floor — just one day before, “congressmen had come by for photos with the different National Guards units that came to Washington to support security around the inauguration.”

    And here’s the money quote.

“After everything went seamlessly,” the guardsman told CNN, “we were deemed useless and banished to a corner of a parking garage.”

Yes. Because that’s how Democrats do.

Democrats use different segments of the population for political gain — and after gaining politically, toss these segments to the side.

And when political winds shift, so, too, political principles. Upon hearing complaints from lawmakers, Republicans and yes, some Democrats, that latter batch no doubt only complaining out of concern about the public relations fallout of images of sad and lonely U.S. soldiers napping on cold cement floors — upon hearing complaints, the troops were allowed back into the Capitol. Swoosh. That’s the sound of political winds shifting yet again.

    Props, atten-shun!

The National Guard in D.C. was always a political strategy of the left to paint a media picture of Trump supporters as crazily violent, out-of-control and mad dog aggressive. It was never about safety; it was never about security.

If Democrats truly cared about safety and security and law and order, they would have demanded the tasking of thousands of National Guard troops to Antifa, Black Lives Matter and CHAZ-slash-CHOP rebellions springing around the nation over past years.

Heck, if they truly cared, they wouldn’t be so anti-gun, anti-military, anti-law and order in the first place.

National Guard troops allowed back into Capitol after being 'banished' to parking garage

By Jeff Mordock - The Washington Times - Friday, January 22, 2021
Thousands of National Guard troops who flew into Washington to secure the inauguration have been allowed back into the U.S. Capitol amid bipartisan outrage from lawmakers after they were “banished” to a small parking garage.

The National Guard Inauguration Task Force commander confirmed in a statement late Thursday that troops will be taking their breaks near Emancipation Hall in the Capitol.

Photos of the troops hunkering down in a cold, cramped parking garage instead of the Capitol quickly went viral. Guard members were moved to the garage to take their break time, according to Politico, which first reported the story.

The photos showed Guardsmen resting between 12-hour shifts crowded together on the ground with some resting their heads against cement pillars.

On Thursday afternoon, U.S. Capitol Police asked the National Guard to relocate the troops who had been resting in the Capitol in between shifts, National Guard Bureau spokesman Maj. Matt Murphy told CBS News.

“As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area,” Mr. Murphy said. “They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities.”

In a statement, the Capitol Police said it requested that the troops’ schedules be changed so they work no more than eight-hour shifts and have more off-campus rest time.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle swiftly condemned the move to the garage. At least two governors reacted by immediately ordering their troops to return home.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott both said they had seen enough.

“They did an outstanding job serving our nation’s capital in a time of strife and should be graciously praised, not subject to substandard conditions,” Mr. Sununu said in a statement.

Federal lawmakers on both sides were also angered.

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, called the move “outrageous” and vowed to get to the bottom of it.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn, North Carolina Republican, tweeted that he had visited the troops, brought them pizza and told them they could sleep in his office.

“No soldier will ever, ever sleep on a garage floor in the U.S. Capitol while I work in Congress,” he wrote. “Our Troops deserve better.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik called the move, “absolutely unacceptable and despicable.”

“We need to demand answers now and this needs to be fixed immediately,” she wrote.

More than 26,000 troops were deployed to Washington to secure the inauguration in response to fears of more rioting after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. Those fears never materialized with only a few minor arrests on Inauguration Day.

    Roughly 10,600 troops remain.

Then, I saw troops turning backs and spitting during the pedophile in charge's motorcades, and troops sleeping in parking garages? Same troops that are gonna come and take me? Lol...

Agitators and activists take to the streets at the slightest provocation, aided, abetted and encouraged by news media hungry for inflammatory video to boost ratings. Demonstrations erupt so often now they have become almost cliché to the point of diminishing impact, spurring protestors to ever more outrageous acts to get public attention.

It's not just in the streets or in the foyer of the Capitol building. Congress itself stages sit-ins on Capitol Hill and endlessly take up chamber time by monopolizing the floor with frivolous, meaningless and futile efforts to derail proceedings not to their liking.

Liberal socialists especially make sophisticated and effective use of social media and technology to incite, organize and execute mass gatherings. Idealistic young people are especially adept at these methods and embrace the leftist ideology as a noble cause, unaware or uncaring of practical realities.

The leftist protestors are no longer satisfied with just making their displeasure known, but increasingly believe rioting in the streets, blocking roads, and burning neighborhoods is just fine — and the police seem to be allowing it.

  32. There's a term for what's been going on in America. The Greeks made up the word long ago: Ochlocracy, the rule of government by mob or a mass of people, or, the intimidation of legitimate authorities. It's also called "mobocracy" from the Latin term mobile vulgus, which translates as "the fickle crowd."

Mass protests hold a time-honored position in American history, going back to the colonists who rebelled against oppression by a far-away king, breaking away to form a new nation. I have great admiration for those original colonists, for their hatred of oppression, for their independent spirit, for their courage against all odds to stand up to the most powerful nation in the world at that time in their fight for freedom, earning their title of "Sons of Liberty."

They believed so fervently in the right to speak up against what they perceived to be misuse of power by any governing body that they incorporated protection for it in the Constitution of the new nation. The First Amendment declares that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The violent rabble taking to the streets these days to protest cannot claim to be heirs to the cherished title of "Sons of Liberty." They wreak mayhem in the name of freedom of speech yet shout down those who disagree with them. They rail against oppression yet scream for more government. They demand more freedom yet call for more socialism.

  33. Conservatives and libertarians are losing the battle because political discourse is drowned out. Dissenting voices within the party have become more strident and insistent, erupting into the mayhem common to Democrats.

The descent of America into mob rule will only get worse as divisive and opposing political dogmas harden into immoveable concrete ramparts.

Is it time for conservatives and libertarians to adopt the mob rule tactics of the left? Should those who believe in limited government, sound fiscal policy, and individual freedom take to the streets to oppose leftist goons and establishment hacks alike?

It is certainly tempting to follow Newton's Law and create an equal and opposite reaction to the forces opposing liberty. But the nature of that reaction should not be violence in the streets. Mob rule is not the answer to the considerable ills of a divided nation.

To begin with, once a person becomes part of a mob, that person ceases to function as a thinking, rational being and becomes a mindless organism chanting passionate simple-minded slogans. People caught up in the fever of a boisterous mob are no longer individual humans, but are reduced to being soldier ants controlled by the group-think colony, and group-think is anathema to liberty.

There is a place in our system for orderly dissent through mass demonstrations. It was with good reason that the nation's founders chose to protect the right of peaceable assembly. But there is no place for lawless abuse of that right.

  34. There are effective ways for conservatives to champion the cause of liberty and reason without burning down the barn. The Tea Party revolt that erupted after Barack Obama took up residence in the White House created a template that can be used as a guide for the resurgence of a resistance movement to the advancing mobs of socialists.

The Tea Party, more a generalized movement than an actual organized political party, grew from grassroots anger over government encroachments on personal liberties. Tea Party activists demonstrated in the streets — peacefully — and made their presence known at town hall meetings hosted by political leaders. They mobilized action to win at the voting booth, getting conservative-minded politicians elected to municipal, state, and national offices and gaining influence in state and national legislatures.

The Tea Party movement was stolen away by establishment GOP activists, and never had a single point of focus and tended to be fragmented in its efforts, which eventually diluted its impact. But the movement established a tactical path that worked and could work again with new energy behind it.

We can expect redoubled assaults on liberty from the liberals, still stinging from their humiliating loss last November. Rest assured they will not be caught with their collective pants down again and are even now mobilizing and strategizing their battle plans for all future elections and legislative confrontations.

I believe it is urgent to revive a Neo-Tea Party movement or something by a different name with the same purpose to restore common sense and respect for individual liberty to our government and society. The gains made by the original movement will fast be eroded by the liberal onslaught if conservatives sit complacent and uninvolved.

  35. Just as the original Tea Party movement swelled spontaneously from grassroots outrage, so can a revival emerge from the energy of hundreds of thousands of conservatives across the country who are mad as hell and won't take it anymore. Donald Trump tapped into that seething cauldron of energy to win the election (to what end remains to be seen).

The revival, I believe, starts with you and me. We must individually on our own take the initiative to carry the banner of conservative resistance against the socialist cancer.

Now, in this world of brain-dead idiots, who can compete with that?

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/jan/25/supreme-court-dismisses-emoluments-cases-against-t/

By Alex Swoyer - The Washington Times - Updated: 10:05 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021
The Supreme Court dismissed lawsuits against former President Trump on Monday that claimed he violated the Constitution by accepting gifts from foreign officials.

The legal battles concerned the Emoluments Clause, which bans government officials from receiving gifts or profit while in office.

The lawsuits claimed Mr. Trump’s commercial businesses received profits from foreign officials during his time as president in violation of the law.

The justices, though, remanded the cases back to the lower courts on Monday with instructions to dismiss the legal battles as moot.

One of the legal actions was brought by the liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, while the other was brought by the state of Maryland and Washington.

The CREW lawsuit was filed on behalf of hotels, arguing they suffered competitive disadvantage as foreign officials would choose to stay at the former president’s businesses to garner favor.

The other lawsuit brought by Maryland and Washington, D.C., focused its concerns on the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, noting in court documents that “officials of a number of foreign and state governments have patronized the Hotel, and that ‘the President’s receipt of benefits from these sources violates both the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses.’ ”

Mr. Trump had challenged both lawsuits, claiming there was no sufficient injury suffered by the plaintiffs in either challenge.

On appeal, the circuit courts disagreed with Mr. Trump, which led to the former president filing petitions before the justices.

The high court on Monday, just days after Mr. Trump left office, remanded the cases back to the lower courts with instructions to dismiss them as moot.

CNN's Jim Acosta: Trump supporters, Fox News remain 'a threat to our democracy'

By Jessica Chasmar - The Washington Times - Monday, January 25, 2021
CNN chief domestic correspondent Jim Acosta said Sunday that conservative media like Fox News and the people who continue to support former President Donald Trump remain “a threat to our democracy.”

During an appearance on “Reliable Sources,” CNN anchor Brian Stelter said “the world seems a little quiet” after Mr. Trump was permanently banned from Twitter, and he asked Mr. Acosta whether he thought the quiet was temporary.

“I think it is temporary,” Mr. Acosta responded. “I mean, I do think what this country faces right now, and you know, I describe it as the disinformation industrial complex. And that is Trump and his people, conservative outlets like Fox News, and then conservative websites and organizations aligned with the president and conservative platforms.

“These three pillars of this disinformation industrial complex essentially helped put Trump in power, kept him in power, sustained his grip on the Republican Party, and it remains a threat to our democracy,” he continued. “It is the reason why there were hundreds of Trump supporters storming the Capitol on January 6.

“And until that poison, that toxin is drained from the national political discourse in this country, Brian, I do think that these forces represent a potential existential threat to this country and have the potential to come back and cause more suffering in the days to come,” he said.

Chief Justice John Roberts won't preside over Trump impeachment trial
By Alex Swoyer - The Washington Times - Monday, January 25, 2021

Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. will not preside over former President Trump’s second impeachment trial.

Instead, Sen. Patrick Leahy, Vermont Democrat, who serves as the president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate is expected to preside over the trial, which will begin the week of Feb. 8.

“Senators preside when the impeached is not *the* [current] president of the United States,” a Senate source told The Washington Times.

Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican, told Fox News if Mr. Leahy presides, it could present a “conflict of interest” since senators are supposed to act as jurors.

The high court did not respond to a request for comment about the chief justice’s plans.

Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, told Fox News’ Sean Hannity earlier this week that he had heard Justice Roberts would not be asked to preside over the second trial, as he did last year during Mr. Trump’s first impeachment trial over his call with the Ukrainian president.

“The story is the chief justice is not going to be asked,” Mr. Paul said. “He has privately said he is not supposed to come unless it is the impeachment of the president so this is an illegitimate procedure.”

Some Republican senators have argued the impeachment trial should not go forward against a president after he’s left office, claiming it is unconstitutional as impeachment is used to remove a sitting president, vice president or judge.
