ReplyDeleteI just read that the College is doing nothing about her actions because, they say, of her 1st Amendment rights. Being tenured and making $100,000 a year for pushing the tripe that she does, should offend every taxpayer, if this is a public university, or offend all donors, if it is private. I'm sure that there is a way to get rid of her, if they really wanted to!

Nevertheless, it is time our Porcine Prof learns that sometimes guts = foolishness. And you know, I think we're just the sort of people to administer THIS lesson, tuition free, to the Porcine Prof.

This could, I will allow, offend any thinking Yorkshire or Poland China ("what did I do to be grouped with her?"), but that's the way it is. Her attitudes are pretty much as loathsome as they come, not only her attitudes towards Republicans in general, but also this "I have tenure" and "I make 100K" and "I can't be fired."

DeleteThe First Amendment, as such, only applies to freedom from government regulation of free speech. Specifically criminal action. Her arrangement with her employer is actually covered mostly by contract law, not constitutional law.

ReplyDeleteIf you're as old as me you remember the guys like Abby Hoffman and the Chicago seven. Hoffman was the creator of the Yippies. He was a commie and one of the drivers behind the 1968 Chicago Democrat convention riots that turned the convention into a circus, and actually had the result of costing their candidate, who was a radical left winger the primary and gave it to Hubert Humphrey who Nixon easily defeated.
This was also the birth of the radical left and the horrors that have followed.
But Hoffman was more theater than principle. He understood that doing something outrageous generated news. Blowing his nose on the American flag for example. But he also wrote books and made money. All those guys were pretty much in it for themselves more than any cause. Bobby Seale became a BBQ specialist, writing a recipe book. Tom Hayden married Hanoi Jane Fonda and got rich and ran for congress in California. Jerry Rubin became a stock trader.
It's all about the show. And these idiots today remind me of that. Who can look the strangest? Who can act the strangest? Who can generate the most outrage from normal Americans?
With the 24 hour news cycle and the internet it's a lot easier than it was for those guys in the 60s. But I imagine they are cut from the same cloth. Attention whores. Seeking adoration from their fellow travelers and wearing our scorn like a red badge of courage.
But then, there's a bunch of them that are just stupid and uneducated enough to actually believe this crap. And that's the scary part. Because those are the dangerous ones.
Guy sued a bar in NYC because they threw him out and refused service because he was wearing a MAGA hat. The court ruled against him. Said it was just fine and dandy.
