Maybe Blue's right... Maybe we should be more progressive like California...

I see our internet doctor has arrived and as usual he's running down my hometown again.

Can't get much worse he says.

And you wonder why Topeka (and Kansas as a whole)is rapidly deteriorating, its downtown on life support, its population dropping, and its crime rate rising. My hope is that the next generation may bring about much needed changes. There is a chance. And I suspect some of them read this blog. I have great memories of the Topeka I grew up in, Macy's downtown, Poor Richard's, AAU swim team at Gage pool, the zoo in great shape... but alas, Topeka seems to be dying a slow death, and the rest of Kansas is not far behind. So yeah, I'll interject my comments now and then. Blogs should always be about dialogue. Otherwise they only serve the blogger who in this case normally doesn't know diddly shit about much of anything. People see things like this blog. They see what's left of the Phelp's crew, they see the abandoned houses around THS and Central Park... and Wanamaker doesn't do much for them. So maybe, just maybe it's time to consider other ways of doing things. If that comes across as arrogant, condescending, rude, I can't help that. It may be more a result of the insecurities of the reader than anything else. But from what I hear from family still in Topeka, things can't get much worse.

Maybe we could take notes from the democrat leaders who've driven a once leading American straight into the ground.

Or perhaps we need to declare ourselves a sanctuary state and allow an unlimited number of illegal aliens to waltz right on in here to suck off the tax payers like that Utopian state of California has done.

Nah, I think I'll just stay put.

I've never claimed we don't have our problems.

But when some arrogant internet doctor claims things can't get much worse than they are here in Topeka, Kansas, well, well that's just a fucking lie...

  2. Don't look for Blue or his butt buddies to be of much help.

You see, that's the thing about liberalism.

You don't have to actually do anything.

You just have to feel it...

  3. This doctor sounds like a typical liberal. Ignores California, and the rest of urban cesspools run by his own Democrats. Living in a neighborhood that is gated and minority free, while shouting about privilege from the balcony of his ivory palace.
He probably just lives to write scripts for opiuates and SSUI's.
A real man. Probably banging a drug rep in his office visits while reading New Republic(k). Moral free and godless.

His grandaddy Karl would be real proud.

  4. Looks like I missed some things today. Long day.
Good to see it was handled.
    Top city doin just fine.
At least the city and county have to decide what to do with a little extra revenue. The surplus isn't huge, but hey its a problem most communities don't face.
    Especially commiefornia....

Good but sad video links, Kevin.
Never underestimate the power of dope, hippies and government enabling I suppose.
And btw, I don't see tent cities set up in downtown Topeka yet. Needle exchanges, methadone diapensery, feces piled up on sidewalks, etc... All missing.

  5. Yeah, somehow or another we always miss out on all the good stuff...

  8. I think Topeka does a pretty good job with our homeless and I have supported Rescue Mission for over a decade. We don't have anywhere near the problem as those west/east coast states. Those people like to talk, but do little if anything to actually help. They would rather leave it up to government instead of hands on.

Now Topeka does do what I consider some stupid stuff that seems to come from the few good old boys/girls that run everything and get tax payer funding. Redoing downtown AGAIN, won't do anymore than the last time. That comical apartments/townhouses at 15th and Lane, well tax payers are picking up that mess. The Topeka airport is a joke and they still hire consultants to bring in an airline. Then wanting to add a hotel, theater and shopping center at 29th and Fairlawn- one of the worst intersections in Topeka. Try going northbound on that under 470 during a busy time. Jayhawk rebuild build has been a decades long project that keeps saying it's almost done. Then I believe I read the want some big downtown center with a 30 foot screen. Then I am always amazed at the historical downtown Ramada Inn built in the 60s. Wonder what the benefits of getting that on the historical register gets a person. Now Topeka wants to extend the 1/2 cent sales tax and increase it to 3/4 cents. These temporary increases never go away and people are so stupid they continue to vote for them. I worked in government, I know the shell game they play!
Topeka is a nice place, but management leaves something to be desired and is basically run by a small group.

  9. As usual, you miss the point. When a city's population loses population, and it's not an anomaly .... you have serious problems. I did not trash Topeka. Topekans do a good enough job of that. But I DID express my desire for a better Topeka, just like I hope for a better D.C. The difference is that we are getting there here in D.C. Topeka just keeps muddling along.

The bottom line is that red states in general, spread poverty around. Even rural areas, perhaps in particularly rural areas are hit hard by red state politics. Big cities have very similar problems regardless of politics. I would suggest you read something by Daniel Moynihan. White flight left the poorest in cities in the South, North, East and West. White flight was non-partisan. You posted misleading videos that intended to portray 'blue' cities as poverty ridden cesspools. Check out Seattle or San Diego while you're at it.

Red states are different - the poverty is everywhere. You want vids ? This video portrays life in the poorest county in West Virginia. It went overwhelmingly for Trump. Is this the future you want in Topeka ?? For Kansas.

And these videos aren't simply isolated incidents. You can find examples of the exact same kind of crap in every major in America. And yes, even in your beloved DC.

    And all these areas?

    And what's it gotten them?

    Nothing.

Is that the future you want?

They don't know whether they're girls or boys, they eat laundry detergent, and snort condoms.

Hell of future you're pushing for...

  17. You know Boz, back in that "great Topeka that you grew up in" the city government was ALWAYS run by Republicans. Camp, Gerlach, Wright, Martin, McCormack; those guys were ALL Republicans. One of the places you're confusing things is that Topeka has morphed into a Democratic city. I don't know when the last time the City of Topeka went Republican, probably Reagan. Shawnee County is a swing county, but that's because the suburban vote can balance it out. Both of our last two mayors are Dems (the current one even being a quota queen, that should make you proud), although the office itself no longer has any power.

But you're right Boz, it's such as ME who are dragging Topeka down, not the sick, lame and lazy trying to cadge disability or committing crimes. I feel so bad. Sometimes I'm so evil, shortsighted and greedy I even OFFEND MYSELF.

You know, I'd probably feel worse about Kevin mocking you, except that you do it to him in almost every posting. Ever hear about turnabout being fair play?

Now for the record, I'm terrified of a "blue wave." The same historical trend that went against the harridan now goes against the Republicans. Ryan bailing was not a good sign. And for the people complaining about Ryan's leadership, if you think you're going to do better with San Fran Nan ... . My Army buddy, Dave Kamioner, predicted a Dem margin of 12 after the election, as a lowball estimate. He may be right. I have said before we'll probably lose the House. But a big enough wave gets them the Senate, too. Then no more judicial confirmations.

  18. The faux doc is sounding a little bipolarthese days. Kind of like he has two voices. One post is coherent, although full of shit as usual, then the next post is kind of strange, almost like he didn't write it. But he says it's him, so it must be. Strange.

But anyway, I see no reason to defend Topeka one way or the other. Frankly, the Captain is correct. Topeka turned into a democrat/communist city years ago. This mayor now is the epitome of it. And they're all in the pocket of the downtown cartel who now owns almost all of the property on Kansas Ave and is grifting taxpayers to increase the value of their property. It's still a big loser.

Besides, anybody who thinks Washington DC is the standard to judge us by is batshit crazy. That city is a giant sewage pond. Crime? Please. And this is the city that reelected a Mayor after he got caught on tape smoking crack with a ho. So let's just forget that whole line of idiocy.

  19. Court Rules Colleges May Not Give Dreamers In-State Tuition Rates

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Monday that community colleges such as those in Maricopa County may no longer offer recipients of DACA special in-state resident tuition rates, seeing as how these students not only fail to qualify as legal Arizona residents but are, indeed, not even legal residents of the United States of America. The ruling did not come as a terrible surprise considering the above fact, but activists for illegal immigrants were nonetheless hysterical as they treated the ruling as another blow to the civil rights of people who aren’t actually supposed to be in this country in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Now do Kansas. We give illegal criminals in state tuition while honest law abiding citizens who live outside of Kansas pay out of state. That's always been a travesty of justice done by democrat/communists.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Also, our President quietly issued an executive order requiring states to report on how they distribute federal welfare dollars including citizenship.

He is in effect cutting off illegal criminal aliens from federal benefits. That's a start anyway.

  22. I don't know, though, Safe. Marion Berry vs. Michelle de la Isla. Ol' Howdy may have to give this one to our crack smokin' Lothario. He probably pays his bills and bequeathed to me one of my favorite political quotes - "Jessie can't run nothin' but his mouth." (I'll bet ol' Boz, however, would have proudly voted for Jackson though, tell the truth, Boz.)

Boz, you know why such as Seattle and San Diego thrive? He's a clue for you - put Topeka on the Pacific Ocean and it would have net in-migration. Besides, polly-ticians have very little to do with urban economic trends.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So I guess that's why Biloxi, Gulfport, Padre Island, Mobile, etc. are such tourist Meccas. As for Marion Berry, can we let the dude rest in peace? He finished his last tenure as mayor in 1999. That was nearly 20 years ago.. But that was then, this is now. DC has added 130,000 citizens since 2000. It's getting crowded and the city is sitting on a 2 billion plus surplus in the general fund.

Isn't it strange though ... that Topeka seemed to be humming right along in the good old days.. and I don't recall beaches, or mountains anywhere. So your argument rings hollow. No, something began to change in the 90's. A new style of republicanism. It has reached its logical culmination, and it will hit a wall. After Cadet Bone Spurs has destroyed it, what comes next is anybody's guess.

There was a time when repubs were far more mainstream. They aren't now. In fact, you know as well as I that they've gone so far off the rails that current repubs would probably want nothing to do with them. They're RINO's, or whatever the term is. Sadly, this is more indicative, of Kansas repubs- from KWCH -

"TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Latest on the Kansas Legislature's debate on increasing school funding to meet a court mandate (all times local):

      2:50 p.m.

A conservative Kansas lawmaker is suggesting that problems facing public schools aren't a matter of money but a shift away from God in recent decades.

Republican Rep. Randy Garber, of Sabetha, argued Saturday during a 13-minute speech on a school funding bill that problems with society and public education stem from U.S. Supreme Court decisions in the early 1960s declaring school-sponsored prayer and Bible reading unconstitutional.

Garber concluded his speech by telling his colleagues: "If we don't fix society, we won't fix our schools."

He added, "I say the way to fix our schools is to put prayer and the Bible back and give it a chance."

If nothing else, it gives fodder to late night TV comedians. Kansas remains a joke to the rest of the country.

SSAH, your comment about Topeka not annexing .... well, okay. But here's the problem; not only is Topeka not growing, Shawnee Country isn't either.

Yes Dr. Howdy, I do believe you're right. The Hill will change drastically. I'm far more irritated with the republican enablers like Ryan, who never saw a backbone he liked. Cadet Bone Spurs assuming he's still around will retreat into his bunker much like Hitler did during his last days, ranting about how Steve Doocy or some other Fox genius betrayed him !! ARGH !!

Finally, if this doesn't put the fear of God in you, nothing will. November... hurry up and get here.

    3. Humming along, you repubs know as well as I that if we do not fix society, we cannot fix our schools. The nonsense of putting God, prayer, and the Bible back in public schools is what started the downfall of society. You Bible thumpers shake your boney fingers but fail to realize that when you point there are three fingers pointing back at you.

It is your fault that Topeka isn't growing.

Your president is on his way out and I am counting the days.

  23. Well, you must have some of the same knowledge of our mayor as me, re: bill paying. Interesting.

Another reason Topeka isn't growing is it doesn't follow many cities in the tradition of annexing the communities around it, although said communities are filled with people who work, shop and do all their business in Topeka.

The Lake Sherwood Lawyer Cartel broke the back of that practice when Topeka tried to annex them many years ago. They weren't having it and since at the time they had more lawyers per capita than Washington DC Topeka never stood a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shawnee County has an interesting political map, Safe. Tecumseh Road is considered Tecumseh all the way to 45th Street. I think everything east of Croco is. Silver Lake, unlike Topeka, is doing quite a bit of annexing. Then again, it really does have a growth philosophy. Topeka has downtown and Wanamaker.

Over ten years now we have had a sales tax to fix roads. And all they did was pay for surveys to say the roads are bad. Real bright. Here of late there have been attempts, but taking far to long and no long term plan designed or initiated.
Current tax rate in Top/Shawnee county? 9.15%.
And Republicans are too blame? Right wingers? Hardly.
And Topeka has an exodus out of the city, but still in the county. To avoid the tax rate, of course. Again, right wingers? Hardly...

As for Shawnee being the recipient of members of the Topeka diaspora, please explain this from the Capital Journal :

"Shawnee County’s population fell for the second straight year as more people moved out than moved in, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Census officials estimated Shawnee County’s population fell by 168, from 178,574 on July 1, 2013, to 178,406 on July 1, 2014."

    1. Neurologist, not psychiatrist. I have no idea who the other anonymous person is, but I don't find his comments entertaining, intelligent or well... much of anything. So sorry Kevin, I can't help him. I did post something some time back that you (Kevin) deleted.... I brought up a condition called terminal lucidity. My point being that it seemed Topeka was in a weird sort of coma, and it needed to snap out of it. I don't recall the exact context of it. But it would be nice if the citizens of Topeka did experience something similar, but not so terminal ( well maybe a few would be nice ). It's a fascinating phenomenon - variable etiology, closed head trauma, last stage Alzheimers, or Parkinsons, something that caused an almost complete breakdown of cognitive functioning. We're talking vegetables. Suddenly, and for now reason other than imminent death, the brain comes alive. Patients who had no ability to communicate, suddenly begin speaking to family, medical caregivers, everybody, as if nothing had happened. It is always possible that this is the result of the brain responding to signals that the body was winding down. But to see it actually occur, it is an amazing experience - it is not rare for patients to seemingly speak to the unseen.... as in family members who have already passed away. Then they kick the bucket. One experience I recall involved a young man with terminal head trauma, as in level one - no cognitive activity at all. Suddenly, it was as if he woke up.... acted like nothing had ever happened.... then became exhausted and sadly passed away. I just don't understand this admiration of first, Brownback, and now Trump. It's as if T Town has come under some weird spell. Trump ?? Really ? Okay.. I get that you don't like HRC. But at least she is reasonably competent. Trump is clueless ... they guy gets bored after listening to someone discussing a foreign policy issue in a formal meeting in like.... three minutes !! Just gets up and walks out. Refuses to shake hands with Angela Merkel like a petulant little child. Now he wants a BIIIG military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue. Nobody has ever been as ill suited for the presidency as this guy.

As for the slams about my adopted hometown. It's not for everybody. It's god awful expensive. But it is far from some sort of shithole. IN fact the place is booming. Check it out if you don't believe me.

It seems you miss the days with more conservative leadership, and you hate the way the liberals have changed it. (Example, sales tax rate = 9.15% and in parts of democratic economic meddling 9.8% at Academy Sports Four Winds development).

As far as "terminal lucidity"? I agree. I look forward to the possibility that some day this world will let go of its foolish utopian ideals of this newer and bolder version of communist/socialist democratic ways. It hasn't worked throughout history.
Maybe the common fool will wake up shortly before its death and come to its senses? Hardly. I expect it will take a hard cage shaking, similar to the ol "ice bucket" challenge. Except this time censorship, property rights, and the right to self preservation might be at stake by then.

I pray people like you will wake up someday. Or that your political misgivings will simply die with the corpse of the DNC. Either one will work...

  49. It has been a while since I posted on here. Been busy. Hubby is having medical issues again and an impending biopsy (not yet scheduled). Please pray that the results come back benign.

My grandson, those who know me and see his picture on my facebook page.... He's one month away from being 1 year old. Time flies. He is such a joy.

Other than that, we are doing ok.

I did see on the AP news this story:

"$30,000 rumor? Tabloid paid for, spiked, salacious Trump tip "

    http://start.att.net/news/read/article/the_associated_press-30000_rumor_tabloid_paid_for_spiked_salacious_trum-ap/category/news+

"NEW YORK (AP) — Eight months before the company that owns the National Enquirer paid $150,000 to a former Playboy Playmate who claimed she'd had an affair with Donald Trump, the tabloid's parent made a $30,000 payment to a less famous individual: a former doorman at one of the real estate mogul's New York City buildings."

Room 235 folks tabloids suck - they reek of fake news.

I've still feel that President Trump will come out on top over this Stormy Daniels malarky. The libtards are trying all they can to take President Trump down but they are losing at every turn.

    1. Prayers and best wishes to you and yours as always Rikki!

Affairs, as wrong as they may be don't bother me. Doubt the country does either. Men in high places left and right, are certainly guilty of them.
But it is funny how affairs are concerning to the left and the media, and "little willy" got a pass. Strange how that works. Long distance between alleged affairs and assault. Amirite?

    2. Thank you Hammer. Hug, hug.

If anything actually did happen, it needs to remain between President Trump and his First Lady Melania. Tales of the bedroom are frankly no one's business but you know the media and the libtards.

  50. You did show me something today Doc. You not wanting to be associated with or grouped with guys like 'Notropis' goes a long ways with a guy like me. I can't stand your politics, but maybe a conversation could happen? I'm reluctant because of your past arrogance, so we'll see I guess. I don't call the shots around here, but maybe your posts will stick around a little so a lowly serf like myself could retort? I'm skeptical, but I'll leave a sliver of hope out there. You have interacted with some of these folks a lot longer, so the past is telling. And from what I've heard and the little I've read my glimmer of hope is most likely fleeting. So again, we'll see...

  51. We got a faux faux doc. That’s almost a foo foo doc.

And we might even have a faux faux faux doc. Not sure about that one.

But whoever he is he’s a lot more entertaining than faux doc uno. Uno is just a stiff boring old harridan with no sense of humor.

Faux doc deux is cracking me up. And he’s winning this battle by a mile.

  60. Yhea those punks over there and posting never did get it figured out that we were there to stay. Booting us off did nothing but make us more determined. Just a real shame that we never got to see any of them. You all know each other here, maybe that's why we don't all get along with fake posters. They couldn't hang with us at a summit.
